MT. WILSON SCIENTIST RETREAT

The prompt of this project was create a place for scientist to have a place to work and sleep that would also be open to the public. The way I approached this was stacking the programs so that the building would not affect the surrounding site. By stacking the programs, I create an area on the top where you can look out and see above some trees.

The building form comes from the first exercise where we created a structural tower. What I took from that exercise was the structural from and the circulation.  The design follows a module of 4x4. This module was chosen by the size of the site. I took the site and sized it up so that it would allow for that module. This way, the module would allow for use inside the concrete column. From there, the sizes of each deck was decided by taking the module and using it sizing it so that it follows the required program size. The program was decided by how i learned about placing program for a single story house. So what i did was make it that when you enter the building, you are immediately in the public space. Then for the residents of the place, the next floor is the office so that they can work immediately. Also, if they have guests that they are working with, the guest do not have to travel up too far. The reason for the bedroom being on another floor because i wanted the kitchen built into the concrete column and that meant there was no space behind the kitchen.
